Summary
Challenging his assertion in his last letter, [in response to Harvie's letter asking where he might find the History of Scotland which contained the letters of Annabella Drummond to Richard II (MA 663.7)] "That it was hardly possible any letters of that Queens did exhist [sic], as Ladies in that age could not write. &c &c ;" asking that he look at "Pinkertons Scots Gallery of Portraits & read the Article connected to Q. Annabella's picture. You will see a note underneath referring to her letters to Rich'd the second in the appendix to the first Vol. of the history of Scotland under the House of Stuart; but he does not mention whose History it is, which I want to find out, so as to provide the book for a friend if it can be had;" describing in detail a picture he has done for the Duke of Buccleuch.
