Summary
Thanking him for his reply to his "enquiries about the Stuarts;" informing him that his patron is [the Earl of] Breadalbane; saying that Lord Breadalbane wishes him to work with the guidance of Lord Buchan "in the selection of the portraits he is to copy that the work may bear the character of the most correct authenticity;" discussing the specific portraits to be copied and asking where they are to be found; asking, in a postscript signed with his initials, about the location of a portrait of Mary Queen of Scots that he had been told was "removed [from St. James's Palace] with other pictures when part of the palace was destroyed by fire; asking also for the name of the artist who had painted this particularly portrait of Mary.
