Summary
Asking him to read a chapter on "New Theology" from his "Volume on the Ministry;" saying that "It was written with care & with a view to calling attention to a drift of thought in Theology which is spreading rapidly among our younger clergy--especially among those inclined to be inquisitive & enterprising in their studies. I regard it as a modified Rationalism veiled under a terminology that allays suspicion & averts challenge. I would like to have you read it & in case you dissent from my views, to kindly let me know the fact--not your reasons;" expressing his sadness at hearing the news that Bishop Bedell is seriously ill.
