Thanking him for the "kind interest" he took in Howe's decision not to become a Missionary Bishop of Nevada; mentioning his conversations on the topic with Bishops [Horatio] Potter and [William Bacon] Stevens; discussing when his family would be able to join him in Nevada if he accepted the position, and wondering how much time he would spend "in the field"; explaining that he needs some of his questions about the position answered before he can reconsider whether he should accept it.
