Summary
Writing in response to Hopkins's proposed letter to the Southern bishops, Potter notes that although he has already written to Bishops [Stephen] Elliott and [John] Johns on his own, and will probably write to other Southern bishops, he cannot sign Hopkins's proposed letter; noting that the second paragraph would be impossible for him to sign "under any circumstances"; saying that he "doubt[s] the wisdom of a united demonstration."
