Acknowledging receipt of $400 and discussing the new Professor of Theology position in Iowa that the money is to fund; informing him that the man they chose for the position has declined to take it; noting that he intends to employ one or both of the resident clergy until someone can be found for the permanent position; asking if Smith has any objection to the appropriation of the money "for theological instruction in Griswold College for one year form April 1st, 1862."
