Summary
Congratulating him on his "settlement in [his] new and interesting field of labor"; asking if he knows of anyone to take charge of the school in his parish; noting that he would "prefer a clergyman, other things being equal, but would be entirely content with a pious and discreet layman of suitable ability, and quite as well with a competent lady"; encouraging him to call on a Mrs. Dr. Stewartson who is spending the winter in Philadelphia; reporting that his wife is"but feeble, but hopes to do better in [their] own cottage" which is being built.
