Reporting that his [Upfold's] consecration has been delayed by "some secret movement ... which [he has] reason to believe [is] of a party nature"; giving details of why his consecration is delayed, and mentioning Bishops [Alonzo] Potter, [William] Meade, [Philander] Chase, and [Charles Pettit] McIlvaine; informing him that he is going to Indiana tomorrow, "as much for relaxation as anything else, after a very hard summer's work"; stating that he is "prepared to enter in [his] duties and take up [his] residence in Indiana at once"; asking for advice "as to the course [he] had better take, to settle this difficulty with Bp. Chase"; discussing his request that Hopkins take a part in his consecration.
