Part of a 12-volume collection of Autographs and Manuscripts of Bishops of The Protestant Episcopal Church (MA 364-375). The arrangement of the collection is by Bishops in the order of their consecration and chronological within their portion of the collection. Rev. Arthur Stanley was the Dean of Westminster from 1864-1881.
The meeting of the worldwide community of Bishops was first suggested in 1851 by Bishop Hopkins to the Archbishop of Canterbury. The first meeting was held in 1867 with 19 American Bishops attending in Lambeth, England. The meeting, later called The Lambeth Conferences, would be held every 10 years.
