Alonzo Potter was the 3rd Bishop of Pennsylvania from 1845-1865; Potter graduated from Union College in 1818 and he would be a Professor there from 1821-1826.

Saying he had not yet found him a suitable position; wishing him well in Philadelphia; adding, in a postscript, that his "credentials have passed the Standing Committee & you are received by the Bishop as a candidate for Holy Orders."
