Part of a 12-volume collection of Autographs and Manuscripts of Bishops of The Protestant Episcopal Church (MA 364-375). The letter refers to the trial of Bishop George Washington Doane of New Jersey on charges of indebtedness; Philander Chase died the following month on September 20, 1852; the trial began on October 7, 1852.
