Notes
Bishop Benjamin T. Onderdonk was tried before the House of Bishops on charges of improper advances toward and improper touching of women resulting in his suspension from his duties as Bishop of New York. The trial was held from December 10, 1844 to January 3, 1845.

Summary
Asking, with respect to the Church, "shall we be a virtuous people or shall we not? And in my opinion: if ever there was a time when it is more especially the bounden duty of the Bishops to take a united and firm stand again wickedness and vice that time is present;" discussing his dissatisfaction with the proceedings of the trial of B.T.O. [Bishop Benjamin T. Onderdonk of New York] and his unhappiness at his (Bishop Onderdonk] being allowed to continue as a professor at the General Seminary; saying that it was imperative for the bishops to stand united "at the present crisis in withstanding the encroachment of the leprosy of Vice & Impurity which evidently hath already begun its ravages among us;" saying he has written to Bishops Elliott, McIlvaine and Meade but that he will not write to any others.
