Summary
Collection consists of approximately 250 letters assembled by Peter Straus of authors, editors, agents, critics and Booker prize judges. Most of these letters concern literary matters and many are related to titles submitted to the Booker prize. Several letters are addressed to Peter Straus in response to enquiries concerning and recollections of publishing matters and the prize. Some notable correspondents include: Kingsley Amis, Beryl Bainbridge, J. G. Ballard, John Banville, Julian Barnes, Malcolm Bradbury, Anita Brookner, A. S. Byatt, J. G. Farrell, Penelope Fitzgerald, John Fowles, Martyn Goff, Keri Hulme, Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, Doris Lessing, Penelope Lively, Iris Murdoch, V. S. Naipaul, Barbara Pym, Salman Rushdie, John Sutherland and Graham Swift. Collection also contains an additional 122 letters from Martin Booth to Julian Nangle, which are not directly related to the Booker prize, as well as two folders of correspondence and documentation related to the administration of the prize.
