Summary
Apologizing for his delay in writing; saying "Between the time of our parting at Middleton, and the Clerical meeting at New Haven, it was found that the Xx people in this State were much alarmed at the thoughts of any considerable alterations being made in the Prayer-book, and upon the whole, it was judged best that no alterations should be attempted at present, but to wait till a little time shall have cooled down the tempers, and conciliated the affections of people to each other. and since the Conventions at Philadelphia--which, as report says, has abrogated two Creeds and 19 Articles, & taken great liberties with the Prayers--we are more apprehensive of proceeding to any alterations;" asking that no alterations be made at present; asking that he work to secure another Bishop for the Eastern States.
