With a draft of the recipient's response to Ainsworth's letter, in which he laments his inability to publish his verse and make a name for himself as a poet, written in pencil on p. 4 of letter, dated 1839 March 13, and signed with the initials "IC" ; with an additional comment by the recipient on p. 3 of the letter, written in pencil in the upper margin of the letter, remarking that the implication that his work is not good enough for Bentley's miscellany is an "untruth" and "a lie."
Written on mourning stationery.
