Summary
Relating the news of his mother's death; saying that he "cannot help measuring the Things in this Country by an English Scale; and when I find them fall short, (which is always the Case) I am cursedly vexed;" saying that he was "in Hopes that You had given over all Thoughts of your Indian Expedition long ago. I could never be reconcil'd to the Scheme. My Opinion is that, all Things considered, the Chances would be greatly against your ever returning to your own Country. You are a Stranger to the Miseries of a Voyage by Sea, and can have no Idea of the Climate of India, the Heats I mean. They would be intolerable to a Man of your Impatience;" adding that he observes "with what Triumph You mention the Circumstance of the thorough Defeat of Opposition. If the King does suffer Lord North to fall a Sacrifice to the Bedfords, He is--not the Man I took him for--But why do talk thus to You? We could never hit it in Politics. Whether it was that You had too great a Lean to the Court, or for what other Reason, I know not."
