Summary
Commenting on the Spanish War; saying "that the Weight of a Spanish War in addition to that most extensive and expensive one in which we are already engaged, would be too heavy for us in our present Circumstances. And as I have long been convinced that we have been in the wrong in our Pretensions to Establishments upon the Spanish Territorys in the Province of Yucatan, I cannot but wish that our Ministers would agree to the proposals made by Spain, and would enter seriously into a Negotiation for settling the Logwood Trade upon an Equitable Footing; by which Means an End may be put to a Dispute between the two Courts, which has subsisted allmost a Century;" adding that he was "allways apprehensive, That Mr. Pitt's Resignation would raise a Ferment, extremely prejudicial to the Service of the King and the Publick at this Time."
