Summary
Reporting that he is slowly getting better but that "every day & every night comes the thought of my mother -- I am not despondent of blue, nor disposed to be any more ennuyeed than ever -- but the thought remains to temper the rest of my life." Noting that he has not yet recovered the full use of his left leg, but that he gets around well enough and visits Philadelphia regularly. Mentioning that he has been writing some to occupy his mind and that he is living with his brother's family in a house he just built. Hoping to visit her soon, but insisting that he will not come unless she agrees to let him pay moderate board.
