Thanking Raikes for his letter; writing that he hopes that "the good understanding between the countries may continue! But, considering the endeavours made by the Ministers, on both sides of the water, to interrupt it, its continuance can scarcely be expected"; remarking, in a postscript, that he is "one of those who do[es] not much admire the Slave-trade system" and that he trusts England can extricate itself from its current difficulties with regards to France.
