Summary
Saying he is relieved that the assassination attempt on King Louis Philippe was unsuccessful. Remarking that as long ago as August he heard of a proposal to renew the negotiations regarding the "Question d'Orient" [the Oriental Crisis of 1840] with the participation of the French King. Understanding how France could feel that "her interests and views were not sufficiently attended to in the first negotiation" [the Convention of London, July 1840] but emphasizing that it is imperative to European stability that the Ottoman Empire continue to reign from Constantinople and noting that France will never occupy Candia [Heraklion, Greece].
