Noting that he has just received a letter that was delayed in the post; asking for no news but about their healths; describing a trip to London and listing his visits and attempted visits with several mutual acquaintances, including Mrs. Damer; mentioning a play; discussing some developments in the War [of the First Coalition], mentioning Lord Moira's plans and the movement of several hundred refugees; discussing the settlement of Robert Child's estate, noting that it has been settled on Lord Westmoreland's eldest daughter [Lady Sarah Sophia Fane]. Continuing the letter on Sunday night, 10 o'clock: mentioning an unconfirmed report that Lord Howe has taken six or seven French men-of-war; mentioning the Berrys' grandmother; commenting on the weather and mentioning mutual acquaintances. Continuing the letter on Monday: remarking that the newspaper has not come before he must seal his letter.
