Summary
Thanking her for a letter and saying he is relieved about her nose; admitting that he was secretly afraid injury had been done to her head, but noting that her clear letters have reassured him that she is well. Mentioning that Hugh Conway still suffers from the blow to his head; saying he is not surprised at the private interviews between L [Leopold II] and C [i.e., Lord Elgin?]. Saying he is glad they intend to return in November. mentioning that the only domestic news is that the Prince of Wales is recovered and that there was a "most memorable debate" in the House of Commons that resulted in tears. Promising to relate her message to Pepys, and reporting that he is "not a little infected with (I mean no harm) the French dis-order." Continuing the letter on Friday morning 13th: mentioning he was at a party the previous night when Mrs. Damer was announced, noting that she looked very well and intending to call on her that day.
