Summary
Concerning the Berrys search for a house to let in Twickenham; mentioning unrest in France, noting that the populace were going to burn the house of Monsieur d'Esprémesnil; regretting that England has refused [to export 20,000 sacks of flower to France], but remarking that it is prudent given the effect of the terrible weather on the crops; sending a copy of a poem, Bonner's Ghost, by Hannah More. Continuing the letter on Wednesday, the 15th: saying he is unable to send Bonner's Ghost yet; reporting that Necker has been dismissed, that Paris is in "utmost confusion," that there is cannon activity at the Bastille, and that the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire had only just left the city. Discussing his jealousy and love for both Mary and Agnes Berry.
