Summary
Saying he has been "demoralized by fever and ague" and is reluctant to accept his invitation "for fear of being squeamish & ill at the last moment as I was yesterday. If I am well enough to come, will Mrs. Smith kindly give me some dinner, and not wait? The other accompaniments of the disease are, in my case, a great appetite, and a prodigious desire for drink;" adding that he will talk with him about Lewes.
