Thanking him for the package of Brookfield letters and discussing the involvement of the United States into the War; describing the death of some men as described by an officer who stayed in the village recently; discussing a young man from the village who is returning only out of a sense of duty; mentioning men who have been killed in the War. Noting that Major Thackeray, who was wounded seven months before, is recovering slowly at hospital in London. Enclosing an envelope from Jane Octavia Brookfield to her husband from when they were courting, noting that the recipient's children might like to include it in their stamp album.
