Enclosing a letter from Herman Merivale; saying that Stephen has asked if they can wait until March for his contribution; saying he is "in a hash with my last chapter in wh. I have been trying to work in a portion written 4 months ago--and have bothered my brains over it until I am 1/2 crazy. But I shall be done to day;" adding in a postscript, that he has received a possible contribution from Synge and asking if he would "write me a civil line to say S. E & Co regret they do not think &c &c."
