Summary
Thanking her for a letter from September 13, which was awaiting him on his arrival in Paris; mentioning that he had a pleasant journey with Lord Howden, a "delightful middle-aged dandy." Assuring her that he did not travel to Paris so suddenly in order to forget her, but that rather "the chain pulls tighter the farther I am away from you and I don't want to break it, or to be other than my dear sisters most faithful Makepeace." Asking after Mrs. Brookfield's heath.
