Summary
Enclosing Mrs. Ritchie's letter discussing the missing portions of the "Vanity Fair" manuscript; saying that the assumption that "what I showed you comprised all that either Mrs. Ritchie or I knew to be in existence" must be in doubt; adding that "if you wish it our bargain must be considered 'off';" concluding that if he still wishes to buy the volume, he would have it delivered to him in return for £1,600.
