Summary
Mentioning that his "elders" believe in a madwoman who claims to see visions and work miracles. Noting that he visited Dorsay, who has made a bust of Lamartine and describing the "fatuous & crazy" verses that Lamartine composed for his own bust; mentioning his social engagements and wondering if she is still awake as he closes the letter at one o'clock. Continuing the letter on Wednesday, remarking that he did not write the previous day because he was "wickedly employed," noting that he was gambling until two in the morning; mentioning a visit by his family; noting he has been working on Bluebeard (an unfinished play); remarking that "a story is biling up in my interior" and wondering whether a story without a villain would be good. Continuing the letter on Thursday: thanking her for a letter and for listening to his idle gossip; remarking on his social engagements and mutual acquaintances.
