Reporting that slight illness has marred his journey; regretting that he did not accept her invitation on Wednesday, noting that he dined out and had too much wine instead. Remarking that since he as been in Dieppe he took a drive to the country and noting that his driver was a "lively pretty girl" coachwoman who was only fifteen years old; describing a continental parson and his wife that he has met; noting that he has read three plays by Beaumarchais and two novels, one in six volumes by Dumas (Adventures de quatre femmes et d'un perroquet). Asking that they dine together on the 18th to celebrate his birthday; noting that he will now work on Pendennis.
