Summary
Saying that he does not hate William and is glad that they have a happy marriage. Noting that only one other man is staying at the house and describing dining out with him; noting that this fellow was acquainted with the Brookfields and described Jane as a "very nice woman;" mentioning that he read about the death of Horace Smith in the paper that morning; hoping that he will be able to write a stronger number of Pendennis than some of the last ones have been.
