Summary
Apologizing for a "bad joke" in the latest number of Vanity Fair, in which Amelia's lady's maid is named Payne (the name of Mrs. Brookfield's lady's maid). Assuring her that she is "only a piece of Amelia," noting that "my Mother is another half: my poor little wife y est pour beaucoup." With a postscript asking her to write that she forgives him.
