Saying he is working on biographies of Arnold Bennett and Frank Harris for the DNB [Dictionary of National Biography] and has just returned the galley proofs of my "worst novel & await the page proofs with a turning stomach;" discussing preparations for Christmas and saying he hopes to see him in April when he is in Yorkshire on a speaking tour; wishing him a "happy Christmas and a healthy & happy New Year, with lots of browsing & prowling in bookshops and every possible reward for your many good deeds."
