Summary
Thanking him for his birthday wishes; saying they have been in Cranleigh for six weeks; saying he was happy to hear he'd had a good visit "in the South" and envying him his "ransacking of bookshops. It is a fine hobby in which I've never indulged;" discussing what he's currently reading; saying he hopes to see him when he's in the North to move out of the house in Grassington.
