Written from "The Pines."
Year of writing from Lang.
Provenance
Sold by Mrs. Collins to Swinburne's biographer Thomas J. Wise; sold by Wise to Stevens & Brown of London, which firm sold them to J. Pearson & Co.; purchased by Pierpont Morgan from the London dealer J. Pearson & Co. in 1911.
Summary
Regretting that Collins is also unable to identify four quotes (see MA 792.9), and referencing the frustration of searching for a quote; mentioning a visit by Purnell; noting that he has not yet seen Tennyson's "To Virgil" and remembering the one occasion that Swinburne met Tenneyson several years before. Remarking that he wants a big project to work on, and musing on writing play on the life and death of Caesar Borgia.
