Notes
Part of a collection of letters from Laurence Sterne. Letters in this collection have been described individually in separate catalog records; see collection-level record for more information.
Sterne left these memorandums for his wife with Mrs. Elizabeth Montague, however they were never delivered.
The description of these memorandums in the auction catalogue says that "Sterne had a hemorrhage of the lungs, and by advice of his physician immediately decided to go to the south of France. Before leaving, however, he wrote this document, and left it with his Cousin, Mrs. Montague, and while there is no specific address to Mrs. Sterne, yet the whole tenor of the document is as if it were directly addressed to her."
