In his introduction to this letter, in the publication listed below, Wilbur L. Cross says that "Mary Macartney, whom Sterne met in London the previous winter, was the daughter of James Macartney of Longford, Ireland" and this letter "appears to have been written at Coxwold late in June 1760."
