Summary
Concerning an American client of Maggs Bros. who is interested in photographs of Miss Thomson; saying "I was rather amused by his request to have a recent photograph of me to place with the early portrait in Mr. Collingwood's "Life". If it was possible for me to give him this I'm afraid it would give him a severe shock! I should not care to see it myself. But I have not been photographed for many years. My autograph is of course a different matter. I still have a number of photographs of children, etc, which Mr. Dodgson took (he was a very find photographer) and gave to me - I have also two photographs of him taken when he was quite young, which his sisters sent to me after his death. I have still in my possession the miniature I painted of him, which you know - At the moment it is being considered by another keen collector of 'Lewis Carroll's. I am waiting to hear his offer. If it is not what I would care to accept, would your client wish to see it? It is, of course, the 'one & only' portrait, beyond very indifferent photographs. By the way - forgive me if I am boring you - I have, in response to the request of many of my friends, written my reminiscences of my friend - I knew him as very few people knew him - I've had some experience in writing & have been quite successful - I am anxious to have it published by an American publisher for they give better terms for this sort of thing than a London publisher - I'm told they are keen on well written sketches of our famous people. I wonder if your American client could suggest a publisher to whom I might submit my sketches?"
