Saying that he will begin research for the film Viva Zapata! as soon as he receives Steinbeck's check. Sending, in the meantime, some books he asked for, and noting that he is doing his best to locate a certain film. Discussing his interest in working on the film, noting that he understands Zanuck's point of view and agrees that it is unlikely the picture will be produced with a Mexican corporation. Assuring him that he will do anything he can to help Steinbeck, even if Twentieth Century-Fox does not employ him.
