Summary
Writing about a mutual friend whom he identifies as "Harry" and as "H.K" who is going through a difficult time; saying that Harry had written to Steinbeck saying that he needed a typewriter and that Steinbeck had replied with a check, however, "Do you realize JS that money isn't everything in Britain today. There are far to [sic] many things that are not available and when you sent the cheque it was still impossible for him to get one. For there were simple [sic] none to be had. What he really did want you to do was to get one for him. You are in London--or I assume so-- & London is a big place, people with influence can get things. That is what Harry wanted you to do;" thanking him for the autographed copy of "The Moon is Down".
