Summary
Regretting that he cannot accept his invitation but "a fortnights confinement under a surgeons care has prolonged my absence from home to an inconvenient length & I must go to the Hampshire coast for a few days before I can set my face homeward; quiet, fresh air & sea bathing will then I trust restore a little more flesh to my skeleton & strength to my limbs. The longer I should remain in London the less I should have of both. I shall return home freed from an infirmity which has hung upon my spirits & to a certain degree crippled me during the last thirteen years. There can be few greater pleasures than this for one in declining life who has no other wish for himself than that the remainder of his journey may be by a smooth & easy decline."
