Summary
Apologizing for not having written sooner, noting that she has been suffering from sciatica and has been working "more appallingly hard than it would be possible to imagine"; hoping that Jane and Kenneth are well; saying that she plans to leave for New York on the 16th and to return to London on April 5; writing that they have had a heat wave and an epidemic of rabies in California; relating a story about a dog infected with rabies told to her by a woman named Velma, who Sitwell describes as the "angel of a coloured maid who looks after me"; reproducing what she portrays as Velma's way of speaking and commenting in a patronizing manner on Velma's lack of understanding of the danger she was in; adding that Little, Brown has asked her to compile an anthology of English and American poetry.
