Address panel with evidence of a seal and addressed to "John Gibson Junior Esq. / W.S. / [illeg.]." Three lines of address have been canceled and are illegible.
John Gibson was a Scottish Writer to the Signet and trustee of Sir Walter Scott's estate following the insolvency of 1826; he was Deputy-Keeper of the Great Seal (1853-58).

Summary
Alluding to an incident with Mr. Walter Dickson, asking Gibson to assure him that Scott has "no remaining feelings on the subject although I was certainly hurt at the time;" saying that "the Scroll of Mr. Cadell's bargain is quite right and very distinctly drawn up;" mentioning that the Kirkness affairs are reasonably settled; returning some receipts and papers.
