Summary
Discussing his recent appointment [as Regius Professor of Modern History at Oxford University] and his concerns over the new duties that may be expected of him and his reluctance to take them on; saying "If I was young I would throw myself into the system and try to mend it. At 74 it would be absurd to try....I shall be rather relieved however if they decide in the negative, and I am left to myself and to my freedom [.]"
