Wondering why she has not received a letter from him in so long, hoping that he and Mrs. Carpenter "are quite recovered and enjoying perfect health;" longing for his return to the British Isles; describing her children's accomplishments; mentioning they are building an addition to their country house and discussing improvements to the estate; promising to write again in three weeks "as I cannot give up the hope but that I must hear soon from you."
