Part of a collection comprising 75 letters from Maria La Touche, consisting of six letters to John Ruskin, one letter to Ruskin's mother, Margaret Cock Ruskin and 68 letters to Joan Severn. Letters are largely undated, but were written from about 1861 to the 1890's. This collection was part of Helen Gill Viljoen's large bequest of John Ruskin-related material (formerly MA 3451).

Summary
Explaining that she is sending a packet of I.L.P.U. [Irish Loyal and Patriotic Union] literature in advance of the Federal Election on Irish Home Rule; discussing Edward Lear's "Nonsense Botany" and Irish daffodils; thanking her for sending the "dietary rules. I am sure they are excellent & I will keep them carefully--I mean I will keep them in a drawer. I am not so sure of keeping them as we keep, or ought to keep, the ten commandments. I think I will wait till I am a little fatter;" relating news of a friend who was "enormously fat" who went to a "sort of Hospital or Cure establishment;" relating news of their bad weather.
