Part of a collection consisting of 64 letters from Sir Edward and Lady Georgiana Burne-Jones primarily to John Ruskin, Joan Severn, and their circle, dated ca. 1864 to 1918. Collection also contains copies of seven letters of Lady Burne-Jones to Ruskin from 1862, and three related envelopes. Letters in this collection have been described individually in separate catalog records; see collection-level record for more information.

Summary
Apologizing for not seeing him at dinner last night at Mary Gladstone's; explaining that Swinburne had come to see him; arranging for him [Ruskin] to come "wander through my work" and meet the "lovely damsel" who is his model; adding in a postscript that "British shyness makes it impossible to speak out one's heart about you face to face--but you do know how you are loved in this house;" adding, at the end of the postscript, a pen-and-ink sketch of two hands clapping.
