Notes
James Whistler sued Ruskin for libel over a review Ruskin wrote of Whistler's work; the trial was held November 25-26, 1878 in London; Burne-Jones testified on behalf on Ruskin.
Part of a collection consisting of 64 letters from Sir Edward and Lady Georgiana Burne-Jones primarily to John Ruskin, Joan Severn, and their circle, dated ca. 1864 to 1918. Collection also contains copies of seven letters of Lady Burne-Jones to Ruskin from 1862, and three related envelopes. Letters in this collection have been described individually in separate catalog records; see collection-level record for more information.

Summary
Saying "we won't talk of this nonsense [Whistler trial] which is out of our lives altogether;" encouraging him to read a chapter in Dickens' "Uncommercial Traveller" called 'Titbull's Almshouses' so that he might "laugh five minutes;" adding "I want Dickens back again."
