Part of a collection of letters, many of which were written by Ruskin's grandmother to his mother and father, or by John James Ruskin, James Tweddale, and other members of the family to one another. Collection also includes the indenture of Ruskin's grandfather (MA 7791.1, dated 1776), and a pedigree of the Ruskin family compiled by W. G. Collingwood.. Items in this collection have been described individually in separate catalog records; see collection-level record for more information.
The original letter was written from Croydon on September 20, 18--; this copy was made for Helen Gill Viljoen by Mr. Dearden in 1959.
The text of the letter (1 p.) is followed by notes (1 p.) about the original letter.
This collection was part of Helen Gill Viljoen's large bequest of John Ruskin-related material (formerly MA 3451).
This copy is written on lined note paper and is headed by a typed note "Copied by Mr. Dearden from MS. in Bembridge School, and sent to me in letter of 14 August 1959. H.G.V."
