Summary
Expressing grave concern for the mental health of his father; saying "This is a dreadful calamity & altho' I feared months ago that such a trouble was awaiting us it falls most heavy on me;" continuing "If there be a probability of the Disease subsiding or if his Intervals of reason are frequent I cannot endure the thought of his being altogether amongst Strangers--but if there be danger in having him at home & no prospect of early amendment the sooner he is removed to proper keeping the better. He must not however be sent to a public asylum whatever the expence may be. He must be provided with every comfort & kept in a place where no Surrounding Horrors may intrude upon the lucid moments which God in his goodness may give him;" worrying for her safety and her health during this difficult time and offering his abiding support.
